Solitude Retreat Centre offers four self-catering units which may be booked individually or together. There are a total of 12 rooms, 14 beds, and the centre sleeps up to 20 people sharing.
There are no televisions or Wifi, and the cell signal is limited - the emphasis is on appreciating nature. We do not allow loud noise or music in order to protect the peaceful atmosphere of the retreat centre.
We provide all linen and towels, along with a supply of firewood. The cottages are not serviced daily, but this may be booked in advance at an additional cost of R100 per morning.
Mahogany Cottage
Cost: R 900 a night, self-catering, minimum two nights stay (December and long weekends: R 1 000 a night, self-catering, minimum three nights stay)
Bedrooms: 2, plus lounge
Beds: Sleeps 3 – 5: 1 queen, 1 single (& 1 pull-out bed suitable for a child in the second bedrooms, plus a single bed sleeper couch in the lounge)
Decorated in Georgian country style, Mahogany cottage has dark wooden floors and furniture and white tongue-in-groove finishings. It is a cozy double-storey cottage overlooking the small dam on the property. The main bedroom upstairs has double cottage pane doors and a deck overlooking the dam. It has a queen sized bed. The second bedroom upstairs has a single bed, plus a small pull-out bed suitable for a child. The lounge has double cottage pane doors overlooking the dam and a Jetmaster fireplace. There is a small galley kitchen with a bar fridge, Salton mini oven with hotplates and a microwave oven. Mahogany cottage has steep stairs which are unsuitable for frail people or very young children. Mahogany cottage is about 20m from Liquid Amber Cottage. The cottage is close to the dam and there is a free-standing braai available.
Liquid Amber Cottage
Cost: R 1 400 a night, self-catering, minimum two nights stay (December and long weekends: R 1 600 a night, self-catering, minimum three nights stay)
Bedrooms: 1 queen room, 1 double room, and 1 single room
Beds: Sleeps 5: 1 queen bed, 3 single beds
Liquid Amber cottage has a long wide verandah overlooking the dam. It is a double storey cottage decorated in romantic country style, with timber and tongue-in-groove finishings. The spacious main bedroom upstairs is air-conditioned, and has a queen sized bed, a large window and two dormer windows. There is a twin room with two single beds and a single bedroom upstairs. There is a single bed sleeper couch in the lounge. There are two full bathrooms, with bath upstairs and shower downstairs. The kitchen has a dishwashing machine, big electric oven, 6-plate gas and electric hob, microwave oven and full-size fridge-freezer combination. The main bedroom is air-conditioned. The lounge seats up to 16 people in a circle and the outdoor verandah dining area seats up to 18 people. The cottage is near to the dam and there is a free-standing braai available.
Mulberry Cottage
Cost: R 800 a night, self-catering, minimum two nights stay (December and long weekends: R 1 000 a night, self-catering, minimum three nights stay)

Beds: 3 double beds
Decorated in simple country style, Mulberry is a cosy little cottage with a long verandah overlooking a patch of natural grassland. It has three small double bedrooms each with their own double doors facing a different direction. It has an open-plan kitchen and lounge area with air-conditioning, and a Jetmaster fireplace. There is one full bathroom with an oversized bath (no shower). There is a second separate toilet. The compact kitchen has a small oven with hotplate, a microwave oven and a full sized fridge-freezer. Mulberry cottage is about 50m from Liquid Amber cottage. There is a free-standing braai available.
Yellowwood Cottage
Cost: R 900 a night, self-catering, minimum two nights stay (December and long weekends: R 1 000 a night, self-catering, minimum three nights stay)

Beds: 4 singe beds (2 are pushed together in the main room)
Decorated in Shaker country style, Yellowwood cottage has restored Oregon pine windows, doors and furniture. It is a double-storey cottage overlooking the dam. The pretty main bedroom upstairs has double doors and a deck overlooking the dam. It has two single beds which may be put together to form a King sized bed. The second bedroom upstairs has two single beds. The lounge has double doors overlooking the dam and a Jetmaster fireplace. There is an upstairs full bathroom with a bath, and a downstairs full bathroom with a shower. The small kitchen has a Salton mini oven with hotplate, a microwave oven and a full-size fridge-freezer. Yellowwood cottage is about 30m from Mahogany Cottage. The cottage is near to the dam and there is a free-standing braai available.
