Reflection and Guided Prayer
Sorrow as Spiritual Practice

By Sharon Grussendorff

We are living in times of enormous global sorrow. We see heart-breaking scenes of the effect of the corona virus on people in Italy and Spain, and many of us carry heavy hearts as we consider vulnerable people who we know, and the likelihood of massive suffering in the future of our own country, especially for those who have very few resources and who live in crowded, difficult conditions. In this reflection I want to look at how sorrow can be a profound invitation to spiritual practice, and to opening our hearts in a new way.

The outline of this reflection is:

  1. An introductory video with a guided quietening and centering practice.

  2. A video with some reflections about sorrow as spiritual practice.

  3. A video with a guided heart-opening practice.
