Reflection and Guided Prayer
Praying in Distress
By Sharon Grussendorff
In one of the previous talks I reflected on the peace that is beyond understanding, and how by letting go of the surface noise of our lives and moving into the quiet inner depths we can experience this peace, no matter what our outer circumstances happen to be. However, sometimes our distress feels so great that we feel helpless in dealing with our overwhelming emotions. This series of videos explores how we can deal with our distress, despair or difficult emotions through prayer.
The outline of this reflection is:
-
An introductory video with a guided practice for checking in with what is happening for us right now.
-
A video with some reflections about praying in distress.
-
A video with a guided prayer for working with difficult emotions, ending with the Welcoming Prayer.
The Welcoming Prayer
Gently become aware of your body and your interior state.
Welcome, welcome, welcome.
I welcome everything that comes to me in this moment
Because I know it is for my healing.
I welcome all thoughts, feelings, emotions, persons, situations and conditions.
I let go of my desire for security.
I let go of my desire for approval.
I let go of my desire for control.
I let go of my desire to change any situation, condition, person, or myself.
I open to the love and presence of God and God’s healing action and grace within
Amen
